When we begin to study insects, the facts about bees we learn leave us amazed. There are about 20,000 species of bees, of which 7 are species of honey bees. Bees are the only insects in the world that make food consumed by mankind, they do not prey other creatures, and make a positive contribution to agriculture to such an extent that the world would not have enough food if it were not theirs.

Bees are amazing creatures that have the remarkable brain power, although their brain is just the size of a sesame seed. They can calculate the distance and direction; they can serve as a guide for the successful harvesting of the field. Without any formal organization, they form highly civilized and organized colonies with each bee doing his or her job unselfishly.

It is interesting to note that honey bee will make 1600 trips to fields with flowers to make one ounce (28 grams) of honey. Each round trip can be up to 5 miles (8 km), and it ranges from 50 to 1000 or more flowers every day per bee.

Pollen is collected from flowers, at the same time and stored in baskets on the legs of the bees to fly home. This pollen may differ in color from pale yellow to dark reddish orange. A flower of the od type and the pollen collected by the bees have a different effect on the resulting flavor of the honey. As the bees fly from flower to flower to collect pollen and nectar, the bees pollinate the flowers and plants that they visit and thus make a huge difference to agriculture. Bees pollinate about half of all plants around the world.

Bees are cosmopolites insects belonging to the order of the Hymenoptera. They are well-developed sting apparatus to protect against predators. It is present in honey bees, bumblebees, and sweat bees. It is important to note that the insect bite is completely different from the bee sting, and both contain different toxins or poisons. The reaction of the body to the bee sting is completely different for different species. Most aggressive insects are the vespid wasps.

They protect their nests aggressively. People who are allergic to bee stings show dangerous anaphylactic reactions that can be fatal. The bee stings of honey bees release pheromones, which attract other bees to attack the predators.

The bees are useful insects and stings only when irritated, but their sting can give a swelling and pain to the victim.
