We all like cake during celebrations such as birthdays and weddings or even at home when we feel like a bit of sweet, decadent indulgence, but is anyone wondering how this came to be? The history of the cake is rich in rituals and symbols of different cultures and countries; all come together to form the cakes that we know today.

A modern cake, especially a layer of cakes, usually contains a combination of flour, sugar, eggs, butter or butter, some varieties also requiring a liquid (usually water or milk) and baking powder (such as yeast or baking powder). Aromatic ingredients such as fruit purees, nuts, dried or candied fruit or extracts are often added, and there may be several substitutions of the main ingredients. Cakes are often filled with jam or dessert sauces (like pastry cream), icing with Buttercream or other icings and decorated with marzipan, piped border or candied fruit.

In the Middle Ages, the word cake means a flat round bread baked hard on both sides.

According to food historians, the first culture to show evidence of the skills and interests of baking was the ancient Egyptians. They were probably fed up with meat and would like to try something new. However, they are more like bread and sugar instead; they were sweetened with honey. The word cake is of Viking origin, from the Norse word “kaka.”

Cakes symbolize the importance of the person who bought it for, as in the old days, ingredients such as refined sugar, nuts, and dried foods are costly. Despite the fact that they are not so expensive today, the message still keeps on its own. It’s a way to show someone you care.

Although these days we have various forms of cake, from the heart-shaped cake in the form of cartoon characters, animals, 3d printed and even R-rating forms, if you are so inclined, cakes are traditionally round. It symbolizes the cyclicity of life, the sun, and the moon, which is probably why we have cakes during important events; Stressing that we are embarking on a new journey in our lives.
