Do you feel anxious in the yellow room? Does blue colour make you feel relaxed and calm? Artists and interior designers have long believed that colour can drastically affect mood, feelings and emotions. “Colours, like features, follow the changes of emotions,” said Pablo Picasso.

Colour is a powerful means of communication and can be used to indicate actions, effects on mood, and even effects on physiological responses. Some colours are associated with increased blood pressure, increased metabolism and eye fatigue.

Psychological Effects of Colour

Why is colour so strong in our lives? What are the consequences can it have on our bodies and minds?

Although the colour perception is somewhat subjective, some colour effects have universal significance. Colours in the red range are known as warm colours include red, orange and yellow. These warm colours create emotions ranging from a feeling of warmth and comfort to a sense of anger and hostility.

The colours on the blue side of the spectrum are known as cool colours and include blue, purple and green. These colours are often called soothing, but they can also remind you of sadness or indifference.
