A kitten, a pair of kittens or adult cats can be a great addition to someone’s home. Kittens are playful, cute and become very self-sufficient as they grow older. The former “dog-only” people tend to get faster than the antics of their new pet. Getting a new kitten is easy, especially in the spring period, when shelters for animals are flooded with unwanted kittens. And animal shelters are a good place to start looking for this newest member of your family because kittens and cats have found there. The best reason for getting a kitten or cat from your local animal shelter is that you give the pet a loving home, and what better way than that?

When the kittens are born, and for the next 3-4 weeks, the mother is the only source of their nutrition. It is immediately after birth when newborn kittens begin to suck mother’s milk flows in sufficient quantity. During nursing, it is important that the mother’s cat is provided with enough food and water to produce an enough milk for her litter. Milk, calcium, and phosphate in the form of bone powder and a few drops of cod liver oil should be added to the daily dose of cat mother food. After the cat’s mother stopped breastfeeding, the meal should return to her pre-pregnancy diet. Some experts suggest, eliminating all liquids from the mother within 24 hours after the kittens away.

Newborn kittens of both sexes and almost all breeds have approximately the same weight, usually about 90 grams on average. Over the next 7-10 days, the kittens can double their weight, on average, 100 grams of weight each week after that. By the end of the second month, kittens should weigh about 1000-1300 grams. If you notice that the kitten is not gaining enough weight, the trip to the vet is in order immediately, so the cause can be determined quickly and adjusted as long as the kitten continues to grow.


Kittens are usually switch from mother’s milk to normal food during the third to fourth week. If you see other behavior or nervousness among the kittens, or they try to crawl out of the nest or start purring loudly, it may be a red flag that the mother’s milk is no longer available in sufficient quantity, and the kittens are starving. Start by supplementing the kittens’ diet with two tablespoons a mixture of dry milk powder with a medium oil diluted with warm water and a pinch of sugar or honey once a day, contrary to what you may think, cow’s milk is sold from the grocery store instead of Adding a choice. And the liquid mixture is one teaspoon every few days.

Now, when the kittens are old 3-4 weeks, the liquid mixture should be the consistency of pancake batter. The goal is to get the cat to lick their food. Never contact the kitty face in their food. Not only frighten, but they do not hesitate to turn to the bowl with food or milk after that.

After they can lick the food from the plate, start offering boiled meat which as cooled enough. Create small balls of meat and place it gently in the mouth of the kitten, if they do not take it for themselves. Do not stop giving the kitten a milk formula. As the kitten continues to grow, and at that time they are only cat food, it is important to continue giving them a mixture of milk to help them realize their growth potential.
