1. Purple color became associated with royalty, because at the time only aristocrats could afford more expensive pigment. In Roman times, it took 4 million crushed mollusk shells, to create one pound of purple pigment.

While some argue that the most famous painting by Leonardo da Vinci is a self-portrait of himself in drag, artist studies have concluded that this is probably the portrait of a woman by the name of Lisa Gherardini, a member of the famous family of Florentine a wife of a rich silk merchant. Leonardo’s father says he knows Gherardini’s father very well, and the picture was probably commissioned by him..


3. The White House is white because of the original lime-based mud, which is used to protect its porous surface rocks. It gets painted every year.
