Raisins are dry grapes; Dried fruits contain most of the benefits of fresh fruits, whilst gaining others. Raisins food is very potent, raisins are very low in saturated fat, which is a useful function for people on a low fat diet, wanting to spruce up their daily meals.

Healht Benefits of Raisins

Raisins contains a generous amount of potassium, which has been found to maintain healthy blood pressure and heart rate, and also counter the adverse affects of to too much sodium. 100 grams provide 749 mg of potassium, which is about 16% of the daily recommendation (U.S). The study showed that potassium contributes to a reduction in the risk of coronary heart disease and cardiovascular disease in general.

The raisins do not contain cholesterol and a very low sodium content (11 mg). Raisins are also gluten free.

Among other advantages of raisins is their abundance of antioxidants and phytonutrients and fibers. Usually the drying process results in the loss of specific antioxidants, but this varies considerably. Some raisins contain resveratrol, an antioxidant polyphenol that has anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, anti-aging and many other potential benefits, however the content of resveratrol is largely dependent on the way of dehydration and the type of grapes used.

Grapes can be converted into raisins or by being dried in the sun or otherwise dehydrated. A study conducted at the University of California shows that subjects eat raisins several (4) times a day for several weeks increased the capacity of the antioxidant plasma and this decrease in circulating LDLP (oxidized LDL); “Bad” cholesterol. High levels of LDL are associated with increased cardiovascular disease.

The study showed that raisins contain no resveratrol because of oxidation from the sun. The raisins also contain anthocyanins, another class of polyphenolic antioxidants, antiallergic, antibacterial and other properties, as described above.

Most of the antioxidants found in grapes found in the skin, with a specific pigment (anthocyanin product) is a good indicator of some types of antioxidants can be found in grapes. For example, red grapes were discovered that it contain the largest amount of resveratrol.

Raisins are a good snack for people who engaged in physical activity, in providing an effective, low-fat, energy-boosting; 100 grams of raisins contain about 299 calories, which is more than a five-fold increase in the same table of grapes.
