A shark is a type of fish that has a cartilage skeleton that is flexible tissue softer than bones. Your ears and nose have cartilage, that is why you can bend them! There are more than 400 species of sharks in the world, and they can range from a few centimeters to 40 feet, such as a whale shark. It’s almost as big as a transport bus!

  • Sharks are carnivorous, which means that they eat other animals. This includes fish and even large mammals, such as sea lions.
  • The average shark has 40-45 teeth and can have up to seven rows of teeth replacement. Since sharks lose a lot of teeth and grow quickly, they often go through more than 30,000 teeth throughout their entire life.
  • Sharks do not have bones in their bodies. Their skeletons are made of cartilage.
  • Hammerhead sharks are born with soft heads so they won’t jam their mother’s birth canals.
  • The first tiger shark, which appears in the mother’s womb, swallows its unborn siblings, while only two small ones remain, one on each side of the uterus.
  • Whale sharks lay the largest eggs of any each animal on land or in the sea. The largest shark egg, measured in diameter of 14 inches.
  • Tiger Shark is the second most dangerous shark in the world, and sometimes it is called “garbage can of the sea”, because it will eat everything.
