The ringing sound of the sleigh bells is too familiar at the time of Christmas days. This is the official alarm siren during the winter season. Below are some of the amazing sleigh facts you shouldn’t know about.

1. Sleigh bells or jingles bells are a type of bell that produces a distinctive ringing sound. They are a family of percussion instruments.

2. Bells are made of sheet metal bent into a spherical shape with a small ball bearing or a short metal rod located inside to create a ringing sound.

3. Small bells were known in ancient times. In Sumer, Babylon, Assyria, and Egypt were often stopped with the paraphernalia of horses, mules, and camels.

4. Many centuries ago, sleigh bells were attached to horses to indicate the approach of someone important or to warn pedestrians about an approaching vehicle. Sleds were unable to stop quickly enough, that is the main reason they needed a warning sound.

5. The sleigh bells were one of the first instruments played in space. In 1965, Gemini 6 astronauts Tom Stafford and Wally Schirra, smuggled bells and harmonica on their spaceship and played a Jingle Bells for the mission control as a carefree leisure fun.
