The soap bubble is a very thin film of soapy water of ambient air, which forms a hollow sphere with an iridescent surface. Soap bubbles usually last only a few seconds before it bursts, either alone or in contact with another object.

Below are some of the soap bubble facts you didn’t know about:

  • In a vacuum of space, it cannot form a bubble due to the lack of external air pressure to counteract the pressure inside.
  • As the waves of light passing through the bubble, it gets distorted by the reflection of various layers of a soap film.
  • The shell of the bubble consists of a layer of water molecules, surrounded by two thin layers of soap. Technically, the bubble will freeze below 32 degrees Fahrenheit, like all water.
  • The only problem is that the bubbles tend to explode after a few seconds, the temperature needs to drop to a temperature that will freeze the water molecules faster.
  • They create a cavitation bubble that immediately collapses, creating a shock wave at that time almost as hot as the sun.
  • Anything that fractures a thin layer of water molecules can lead to the destruction of the bubble. For example, a gust of wind or object (such as your finger) will easily cause the bubble to burst. In addition, if enough water molecules evaporate, the bubble will burst.
